US Air Force Shoots Down Object in Canada
On February 12, 2023, the United States Air Force (USAF) shot down an unidentified aerial object over Canadian airspace. The decision to engage was made following multiple attempts by the USAF to identify the aircraft and contact its owners resulting in no further information being provided.
The events transpired quickly given a perceived threat and emergency protocols were immediately enacted while respective North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) officials consulted with their local counterparts on response measures. Following a collaborative effort between the US and Canada, the object was successfully targeted and destroyed without any loss of civilian life or property damage in accordance with international law governing air safety operations.
I ordered the take down of an unidentified object that violated Canadian airspace. @NORADCommand shot down the object over the Yukon. Canadian and U.S. aircraft were scrambled, and a U.S. F-22 successfully fired at the object.
