A frontline Indian Naval warship, INS Satpura, steamed into Darwin for another multinational exercise, Kakadu, by the Australians to practise large force employment warfare in the Indo-Pacific Region. This exercise followed the Indian Air Force's (IAF) participation in the high-profile multilateral air combat exercise Pitch Black at Darwin, Australia. In this drill, fourteen elite fleets are taking part. The involvement of an Indian Navy P8I Long Range Martime Reconnaissance Aircraft will support the participation of the Indian stealth frigate. On September 12, both platforms arrived in Darwin to take part in the Royal Australian Navy's Exercise Kakadu - 2022.
There are periods at sea and in harbour during the two-week practise. Participating crews will interact during operational planning sessions and sporting events during the exercise's harbour phase.
The Indian Air Force fielded two C-17 Globemaster strategic airlifters and four front-line Sukhoi-30MKI fighters in the recently completed air combat exercise Pitch Black. In a field with more than 100 aircraft and 2,500 soldiers from the various air forces, these were thrown in during war simulations. The theme of the August 19–September 8 exercise Pitch Black was the extensive use of military force.
Over 100 airmen made up the IAF delegation, which was commanded by Group Captain YPS Negi. In a "difficult environment, they conducted multi-domain air combat missions and exchanged best practises with the other air forces," according to the IAF.
